Correction note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly indicated, in both its text and its headline, that Kesha Hayes of Professional Development and Training Services sought a revision request in order to operate a massage business. The errors have been corrected.
Two different proposed enterprises are seeking permission to operate massage businesses in Columbia County, both on Columbia Road.
License massage therapist Jenny Goeddel has submitted a conditional use request for a suite in an office building at 205 New Petersburg Dr., off Riverwatch Parkway, seeking permission to operate her therapeutic massage business.
According to the conditional use addendum document, the business would be open every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with just Goeddel operating., though she indicated plans to eventually bring on two more licensed massage therapists.
Likewise, Jerrilyn Sweat submitted a request for a planned unit development (PUD) revision at 4408 Columbia Road, in Martinez. The office building at the subject property, where Sweat is seeking permission to run her licensed massage therapy operation, currently houses a private medical care service, Aveanna Healthcare.
Yet another office building in Martinez is also the subject of major revision request, in the Columbia Road Professional Center. Kesha Hayes, the owner of Professional Development and Training Services based in Lugoff, S.C., is asking the county to allow for massage use in Building 12 of the professional development at 4210 Columbia Road.
The institution offers training in various healthcare fields, such as phlebotomy, EKG and clinical medical assistance, and is planning to open its first Georgia office in Columbia County.
According to the narrative document included with the application, courses are largely conducted virtually, with students coming to campus for registration and simulation training. The proposed campus in Martinez would employ about five staff members.
The Columbia County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider all three requests during its meeting on Dec. 19.
