Heavy Equipment falls into Lake Olmstead

Date: December 14, 2022

Wednesday morning commuters were surprised to see a piece of heavy equipment partially submerged in Lake Olmstead. The accident actually happened late in the day on Dec. 11.

According to Hameed Malik, director of the Augusta Engineering Department, the dredger is owned by Gator Dredging, which is the contractor tasked with dredging the lake.

“They have taken all the measures in case of a fuel spill,” Malik said.

According to Malik, the dredger simply got too close to the lip of the barge and tipped over.

“These things, accidents, happen in construction. They are working now to remove it,” Malik said.

No one was injured in the mishap.
