Date: September 23, 2025

A Richmond County jury has convicted 22-year-old Daveon Jonquavious Wood of felony murder in the child abuse death of his four-month-old son Aiden last year.

The jury found Wood guilty of two counts of felony murder, first-degree child cruelty and family violence battery after a brief trial that began Sept. 16.

Senior Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Craig sentenced Wood to life without parole for felony murder, 20 years for child cruelty and 10 years for battery, all to serve consecutively.

Wood, who had a Hephzibah address, was arrested Nov. 9 after his son was hospitalized with brain injuries. Authorities said the baby was shaken, struck and left unresponsive while in his father’s care.

Aiden died a few days later and Wood was charged with murder. Family and staff at Children’s Hospital of Georgia held an honor walk when the child’s organs were donated.
