Hephzibah Man Accused of Murder in Neglect of Elderly Mom

FREDERICK TORREY III

Date: August 09, 2021

A Hephzibah man was charged Monday with murder and elderly neglect after his 94-year-old mother was found dead with large bed sores and feces on her, authorities said.

Frederick A. Torrey III, 75, of 2409 Buffington Dr., was charged with murder and elderly neglect in the death of Violet Torrey Theuret, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:26 p.m. Sunday at the family home, and she “appeared to have been neglected for some time,” the coroner said in a press release. “Theuret was found in her bed which was very unsanitary, feces on her as well as large bed sores on her body.  Theuret had very poor hygiene which she was unable to provide for herself.”

Theuret was taken to the GBI Lab for an autopsy, which should reveal the extent of her injuries and provide a more specific cause of death.

The case brings Richmond County’s homicide count to 20 for the year, down one from last year’s 21 homicides that had occurred through August 9.

A LinkedIn profile shows Torrey as a “ranching professional.” Nothing else is known about him or his mother.
