Hephzibah man sentenced to life for North Leg killing

Robert Dubose

Date: March 29, 2025

A Hephzibah man has been found guilty and sentenced to life without parole for the 2020 broad-daylight killing of Ramon Bryant on North Leg Road at Wrightsboro Road.

A Richmond County jury took about a day to find Robert Alexander Dubose, 43, guilty Thursday of malice murder, felony murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and during a felony.

Augusta Circuit District Attorney Jared Williams noted the Dec. 4, 2020, shooting took place in broad daylight at one of the city’s busiest intersections.

Dubose had been released on bond just four days before for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to previous reporting. Bryant, who was driving, was found slumped over in his vehicle, it said.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dre’Kevius Huff. Williams said the diligence and persistence of DA Investigator Tom Brown led to the location of crucial witnesses to the crime.

The harm Dubose caused “can never be repaired,” as Bryant, 26, left behind a young daughter and grieving family, Williams said.

Richmond County Superior Court Judge Amanda Heath sentenced Dubose to life without parole, plus 15 years for the firearms charges.

“When you take a life, you forfeit your own to the prison system,” Williams said. “We are pleading with the community to put the guns down.”

Dubose was previously sentenced in U.S. District Court to 84 months for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to court records.
