As the 2023-2024 Georgia High School Association’s sports calendar rushes to an end with the soon-approaching conclusion of spring sports, so too does the GHSA’s current region alignment.
When the GHSA met back in November, it made official the transition from seven classifications back to six as well as the reconfiguration of each GHSA region. Those changes come into affect for the 2024-2025 sports calendar.
That means, when August rolls around, you’ll have to get used to seeing some of your favorite teams competing against different opponents or even in different classifications than what has become normal over the last several years.
Notable shifts move Westside from Class AA to Class AAA, Burke County drops down from Class AAAA to Class AA, Grovetown now will be the only area school to reside in Class AAAAAA, which is now the largest classification. Evans, Greenbrier and Lakeside-Evans all drop to Class AAAAA and Aquinas is up from Class A to Class AAA.
Here’s a list of each newly aligned region that includes a GHSA school.
