The threat of inclement weather due to Hurricane Francine is causing a shift in scheduling for several Augusta-area high school football teams originally scheduled to play Friday.

Thomson announced Wednesday afternoon that it would reschedule its Friday, Sept. 13 game against Swainsboro to Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at Thomson High School.

The schedule change will mean that the Bulldogs’ traditional pre-game dog walk will not take place. But everything else will take place as if it were a regular Friday night game.

FOOTBALL FRIDAY SCHEDULE: Here’s where your favorite team will be in action this week.

As of Wednesday at noon, schools in our coverage area shifting to a “Thursday Night Lights” set up include Aiken, which will travel to play Lugoff-Elgin on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Lincoln County which will host Elbert County on Thursday at 7 p.m. as well.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Francine is a Category 1 storm scheduled to make landfall on the Louisiana coast sometime Wednesday afternoon. Weather.com gives about a 65% chance of steady ran on Friday with a 90% chance of thunderstorms Saturday across the Augusta area as a residual effect of the storm.

We’ll keep you updated with other potential schedule changes as information becomes available.
