Historic Walton Way club, engineering contracts go for Augusta Commission approval

Re-licensing the former Red Lion bar and grill and about 25 other items go for approval by the Augusta Commission Thursday, bypassing committees canceled due to the July 4 holiday.

Michael Schepis, owner of the Pizza Joint and Oliviana’s, is applying for an on-premises beer, liquor and wine license for the Red Lion Pub & Grill.

The venue, open from the early 1940s through the 1990s, is located at 1936 Walton Way.

Other items going for commission approval include: 

  • To amend Augusta’s personnel policies and procedures manual to allow employees already being paid the maximum of their salary grade to receive cost-of-living increases being paid other employees, if they exceed expectations on their evaluations.
  • A contract with Infrastructure Systems Management, known as ISM, to install and maintain rainfall monitoring equipment.
  • A contract with ISM to provide program management personnel to support an automated metering system for Augusta Utilities.
  • A contract with LEP Contracting, LLC for landscaping services at the Highland Avenue Water Treatment Plant and North Max Hicks Water Treatment Plant Facility.
  • A sole-source contract with Janus Research to evaluate Augusta’s meter-reading technology and investigate a new technology called LoraWAN.
  • The emergency replacement by Trane of HVAC controls for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and HVAC units at Augusta Municipal Building.
  • A presentation from former commissioner Moses Todd about Augusta’s cemeteries needing Sales Tax 9 funds to complete improvements.
