Home for the Holidays for Pets

Date: November 14, 2021

Augusta Animal Services is looking for people willing to set an extra plate for Thanksgiving.

The department is again offering its “Home for the Holidays” program. People who are staying home are invited to come to the shelter and select an adoptable pet to share Thanksgiving in their home.

“Shelter pets at Augusta Animal Services don’t want to spend the Thanksgiving holiday alone,” said Deputy Director Crystal Eskola. “We have pets, cats and dogs, that would love to cuddle on someone’s couch and maybe eat a bit of turkey too! We need families that can give the pets a reason to be thankful by showering them with love.”

Animals can be picked up on Nov. 19, 20 or 21 from 1 – 4 p.m. They can be returned Nov. 28 or 29 from 1 to 5 p.m. AAS can provide supplies for the cat or dog if necessary during the visit.

Eskola said, “We hope that most animals will become long-term family members but if not, the information and photos obtained during their visit with the family will help the animal get adopted upon return.”

AAS is also running a special for anyone wishing to adopt a pet. All animals can be adopted for $15 to reduce overcrowding at the shelter.

The shelter is located at 4164 Mack Lane, off Tobacco Road. For additional information on “Home for the Holidays” or pet adoption, call 706-790-6836.
