Homeless man found dead in abandoned car in Aiken County; no foul play suspected

Date: September 10, 2025

A tragic discovery was made Wednesday morning in Aiken County when a local homeowner found the body of a Black male inside an abandoned vehicle.

The Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, located in the 1200 block of Williston Road, shortly before 11 a.m. The homeowner, who made the grim find, identified the man as a homeless individual known to frequent the area. However, positive identification is pending fingerprint analysis, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.

The cause of death remains undetermined at this time, though officials have stated that no foul play is suspected. An autopsy has been scheduled for next week in Newberry to determine the cause and manner of death.

Both the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
