The honorary starters and starting times for day 1 of the Masters Tournament on Thursday, April 10, have been announced.
Legendary golfers Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson will be the honorary starters for the 2025 Masters Tournament. The ceremony is set to begin on the No. 1 tee at 7:25 a.m. Combined the three men have won 11 Masters Tournaments and made 140 appearances in the Masters.
The honorary starter custom began in 1963 with Jock Hutchison (1963-1973) and Fred McLeod (1963-1976). Other honorary starters include Byron Nelson (1981-2001, non-consecutive), Gene Sarazen (1981-1999), Ken Venturi (1983), Sam Snead (1984-2002), Arnold Palmer (2007-2016), Nicklaus (2010-present), Player (2012-present), Lee Elder (2021) and Watson (2022-present).
The 2025 Masters Tournament will begin following the honorary starters with group 1 teeing off at 7:40 a.m. and continuing until the final group at 1:45 p.m. The featured groups that will be shown on masters.com and the Masters app will be:
- 9:47 a.m. Collin Morikawa, Joaquin Niemann, Min Woo Lee
- 10:15 a.m. Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jose Luis Ballester (A)
- 1:12 p.m. Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg, Akshay Bhatia
- 1:34 p.m. Jon Rahm, Wyndham Clark, Tommy Fleetwood
