The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on May 19-23.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 80 earned by Mei Mei’s Dim Sum House, located at 251 Meridian Drive, in Grovetown.

During the inspection, the inspector noted observing a lack of proper washing equipment, which resulted in a four point deduction

“Observed chemicals for dish machine being stored in soy sauce bucket that was unknown. Dish machine is currently not working,” the report stated. “Use approved chemicals that are properly stored in original containers for dish machine.”

The inspector also noted witnessing food being improperly stored, resulting in a four point reduction.

“Observed multiple food items in several reach in coolers and walk-in cooler being stored uncovered,” the report stated. “Ensure all food items are stored covered.”

The inspector also deducted another four points from the health score for noticing foods once again being improperly stored.

“Observed several food products stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer,” the report stated. “Ensure food products are stored at least 6 inches above ground.”

Lastly, the inspector also deducted three points for seeing food improperly labeled.

“Observed several bulk items stored in containers without labels,” the report stated. “Ensure containers are properly labeled with product information.”

The second lowest score of the week was an 81 given to Hooters of Augusta, located at 2834 Washington Road, in Augusta.

The inspector noted finding several expired foods, which resulted in a four point reduction. The expired foods included: sliced tomatoes (5/19/25), Hooters seasoning (5/16/25), onions (5/20/25), chocolate cake (5/20/25) and buffalo shrimp (5/21).

“Observed several items stored past expiration date in [reach-in-cooler],” the report stated. “Repeat violation. Monitor use by dates and labels closely.”

During the inspection, the inspector deducted two more points for noticing unsafe water on the kitchen floor.

“Observed standing water in main kitchen area,” the report stated. “Squeegee/remove standing water as soon as possible to prevent potential injuries.”

For damage to kitchen areas, the establishment lost another point.

“Observed dust debris throughout kitchen on ceilings, specifically above expo window where food is passed through. Observed several cracked/missing floor tiles throughout main kitchen area,” the report stated. “Clean dusty areas, clean above serving/expo window. Repair cracked/missing floor tiles.”

Following the Hooter’s inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 83 given to Knights Inn, located at 3054 Deans Bridge Road, in Augusta.

Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported a lack of gas inspection for the establishment, which caused a five point reduction.

“Observed no gas fired inspection for last year,” the report stated. “Will return in one week to see if inspection has been scheduled and follow up on its completion.”

Throughout the inspection, the inspector also reported observing a lack of clean bedding and marked another four points off the inspection score.

“Observed soiled and stained linens/mattresses in rooms 102, 104, 209, and 202,” the report stated. “Clean stained mattresses and linens or replace them.”

The inspector also deducted two points from the health score for finding unclean A/C filters in rooms.

“Observed dirty A/C filters in rooms 102, 104, 106, 209, 206, 225, and 202,” the report stated. “Regularly clean filters.”
