The local golf community continues to show up for the City of Augusta in its Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
PGA Tour golfers Luke List and Henrik Norlander announced an initiative Thursday designed to support local organizations leading the Hurricane Helene disaster response across the CSRA.
List and Norlander, both Augusta residents, announced the “Birdies for Augusta” initiative as a way of procuring funds for storm recovery. This announcement came on the same day Augusta National announced a joint $5 million donation toward Helene recovery efforts.

“Hurricane Helene brought incredible damage and loss of life to our community,” List said. “While we are in Jackson, Miss. for the Sanderson Farms Championship, our hearts are in Augusta as the community recovers from this terrible storm.
“To help the local Red Cross as they lead response and recovery efforts back home, we are launching ‘Birds for Augusta’ where we donate $500 for every birdie Henrik and I make during the tournament.”
List and Norlander are hoping others in the golf community — whether fans or golfers — will find it in their hearts to contribute.
“We are calling on our fellow golfers, tour fans, friends, businesses leaders to join us and make a pledge,” Norlander said. “Whether it’s $5, $100, or even $500 a birdie, we can help the local Red Cross and help rebuild Augusta.”

Both golfers sport the kind of resume that should make at least a few birdies a possibility.
Since List joined the Tour in 2013, he’s captured two PGA Tour wins (Farmers Insurance Open in 2022 and Sanderson Farms Championship in 2023), three runner up and two third place finishes while registering 12 top-5 finishes and 25 top-10 finishes. The 39-year old also recorded a T33 finish in the 2005 Masters and a 6th place finish in the 2019 PGA Championship.
Meanwhile, while Norlander’s never captured a PGA Tour win since joining the tour in 2013, he’s carded three runner up results, seven top-5 finishings and nine top-10 finishes.

List won the Sanderson Farms Championship last year, prevailing in a 5-man playoff at the tournament hosed by The Country Club of Jackson. This year’s tournament will run from Thursday Oct. 3 through Sunday Oct. 6. As of Thursday afternoon’s leaderboard, Norlander is T7 with two other golfers while List is in a T46 logjam with 28 other golfers.
