When it comes to comedy, Dusty Slay likes to keep his routines PG.
“Nothing that I do is vulgar,” said the comedian who will headline Brew Ho-Ho-Ho Dec. 18 at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.
And having a clean comedy act hasn’t hurt the Alabaman-born Slay, who now lives in Nashville, Tenn.
Slay draws from his life experience when he’s coming up with his routines. And while he has a lot of material on YouTube, he said what he’s got planned for Brew Ho-Ho-Ho won’t be anything anyone has seen on the video platform.
He was the youngest comedian to perform on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Variety Magazine named him one of the top 10 comics to watch in 2019. That was a mixed blessing, he said. On one hand, it was great that he received the honor, but it was right before the pandemic began.
Slay has always been able to make people laugh, he said, and his stories of his life provide a vehicle for comedy

He once lived in a trailer park.
“I do some trailer park jokes, but I’m not making fun of people who live in trailer parks,” he said.
He’s also got a few from his drinking days. He stopped drinking about a decade ago. The workplace has provided a few laughs, except for the pest control job. Pest control isn’t funny, he said.
Augustans may be familiar with the comedian who has performed in the area before at Somewhere in Augusta. He’s made appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” including his latest one earlier this month. He’s also appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “The Standups” on Netflix and “Last Comic Standing.”
A visit to Slay’s website provides links to other interviews and video appearances. Slay said he didn’t like his bio so he put the interviews there instead.
Slay’s performance is part of Brew Ho-Ho-Ho, a “celebration of craft beer and comedy,” according to a news release.
The event begins at 3 p.m. with the Riverwatch Brewery Yuletide Beer Garden. In addition to a variety of craft beer, there will be food from SmokeShow BBQ and Luna Pizza. The comedy show will start at 7 p.m.
Admission to the beer garden is free. Tickets to see Slay are $20 plus applicable fees. For tickets, go to inthecenterofcc.com.
