Columbia is new to The VeryVera Show this season. We have been waiting for an opening in a time slot for five years and finally got the word last summer that we have a viewing slot on Saturday mornings on WOLO. We have deep roots in Columbia from our mail order days and are so thrilled to have this area join our family.
I think Augusta viewers and Gamecock Fans will get a real kick out of the show this weekend. We do a food tour and recommend a great hotel, so come prepared to be really hungry when you watch this one!
Starting out with breakfast…we all know what Cat Head biscuit means, right?

I could have maybe eaten a third of one of these myself but Chef Todd’s secrets to the biscuit and the chicken preparation are all worthy tips to any home chef. It’s certainly worth heading over there before you take the children to the ZOO!

Lunch and shopping at the Gourmet Shop is a must for any reason you happen to be in Columbia, and especially in the Five Points area. For the home cook, wine enthusiast or cigar lover, it’s a reason just to GO to Columbia…and lunch is a bonus. Be sure you meet Zach who clearly understands his patron’s favorites and the size of their appetites. The Pimento Cheese Sandwich and Chicken Salad croissant are a must along with this famous pasta salad.
Graduate Hotel is a real treat, not only from the aesthetic value but also the history. And to think we got to meet Mary Black, who grew up there as a child, married in the home and raised her own family there. She is precious and at 99 – she is my Hero!

Finally, dinner at Terra was so beautifully presented and “churched out” as Chef Mike describes. His menu is on-point for the area with specials related to local farmers. Out of the three he made for us that day, I have to say that the Lamb Mac is definitely my all-time favorite.

I hope that a trip to Columbia is in your summer plans. Be sure to tune in today at 12:30 on WJBF or Saturday night at 7:30 and if you go, please tell them Vera sent you!
