I am thrilled this week to celebrate our 10th season and our 300th episode with my Augusta viewers and supporters of the show. The Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau has been so instrumental through the years in supporting the growth of business, and it seemed only fitting that we partner for this episode.

I started my journey to introduce our audience from all over the Southeast and beyond to what Augusta has to offer for a weekend visit. I began at Surrey Center and showcased several of the stores, highlighting a variety of merchandise. I left that location and headed downtown to Edgar’s Above Broad to enjoy some delicious food and great scenery.

I left that experience and caught up with Bennish Brown, the CEO of the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau. He agreed to join me on two of the excursions, so we headed over to Bike, Bike, Baby for a fun day with Alvin & Christina in the downtown area and ended up with Steven and Greg at Two Dudes and a Boat for khakiing on the river. I then re-grouped and headed down to the newly renovated Partridge Inn to see what all the fuss has been on that end of Walton Way! What better way to have our final “Getting Around” segment to be filmed from a hot air balloon with Manning and the Rising Stars Team.

The Very Vera Show airs on WJBF-TV at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Coming next week will be the first show of Season 11.
A congratulations from managing editor Charmain Brackett and a memory for Vera
The Very Vera Show’s roots came from a throwdown with Bobby Flay on Food Network in 2010.
My brother, Leonard, works for Vera’s son, Daniel, at Wier/Stewart. He was among the 100 or so guests at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion where some filming of the episode occurred.
“She didn’t know a throwdown was taking place,” Leonard said.
She thought that she was being filmed for something else on Food Network.
It was supposed to be top-secret, but my brother isn’t the best at secrets, especially when they are happy ones, so I knew the episode was taking place.
He watched as Vera whipped up her famous carrot cake and beat Flay.
I’ll give him credit. He didn’t tell us she’d won in so many words, but his happy grin gave it all away.
He’s also never stopped talking about Vera’s cakes.
From Bobby Flay to 300 episodes. Congratulations, Vera, and here’s hoping for many more.
That reminds me – I love carrot cake. Maybe it’s time for another foray into those recipes I’ve been making.
