Date: May 18, 2024

Jorge Cortes, M.D., director of Augusta University’s (AU) Georgia Cancer Center, GRA/Whitaker Eminent Scholar in Cancer and professor in the Department of Medicine has been named the first editor of a new medical journal. This journal has been created to educate physicians around the world about new developments in blood cancers and disorders.

The new journal will be called Blood Global Hematology and is being launched by the American Society of Hematology. This esteemed position highlights Cortes’s numerous contributions to the field of hematology.

“I’ve worked extensively with patients, clinicians, and investigators from all over the world, and I know firsthand the scale of global research,” said Cortes. “Blood Global Hematology will be a home for research done anywhere in the world and a voice for the global hematologic research community. Our aim will be for this journal to improve science and patient care worldwide.”

Cortes is an internationally recognized expert in the field of hematology. Blood Global Hematology will be a leading publication because of Cortes’s expertise and leadership. The journal will highlight groundbreaking research projects and clinical practice.

The American Society of Hematology was established in 1958 and is the largest professional society for hematologists. The organization has advanced the field through research, patient care, education, training, and advocacy.

They hope their new journal will provide a platform for scientists and clinicians to share their research and to collaborate on solutions to challenges in global hematology. Blood Global Hematology will highlight peer-reviewed articles that push the boundaries of knowledge and improve patient care.

The journal will begin to accept submissions later this year, and there will be no submission fee. Physicians and scientists are encouraged to submit their publications on a wide number of topics within the field of hematology.
