Indian restaurant fails health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant received a failing score from inspections, while another passed by one point from inspections on May 5-9.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 67 earned by the Persis Indian Restaurant & Bar, located at 3112 Washington Road, in Augusta.

During the inspection, the inspector noted observing food improperly, which resulted in a nine point deduction

“Observed raw shrimp stored above ready-to-eat cheese in [reach-in-cooler],” the report stated. “Follow proper storage order.”

The inspector also noted witnessing an unclean ice maker, resulting in a four point reduction.

“Observed build up on bulk ice machine,” the report stated. “Clean food contact surfaces regularly.”

The inspector also deducted another four points from the health score for noticing foods being improperly stored again.

“Observed red onion, shrimp, & cheese stored uncovered in [reach-in-cooler]. Repeat violation,” the report stated. “Cover all food in storage.”

The inspector also deducted four points for seeing food past expiration date.

“Observed dark soy sauce w/ an expiration date of 2/13/25,” the report stated. “Observed several food items in [walk-in-cooler] w/o labels. Repeat violation.”

Lastly, the inspector noticed food not being stored in a safe manner, which resulted in another three points being deducted.

“Observed large pot of rice stored on floor uncovered, propping the door open,” the report stated. “Store food 6 inches or above from the floor.”

The second lowest score of the week was also a score of 70 given to A Town Wings, located at 3412 Mike Padgett Highway, in Augusta.

The inspector noted observing employees not properly washing hands before returning to the kitchen, which resulted in a nine point reduction.

“Observed one employee go into lobby area and not wash his hands after returning to the kitchen,” the report stated. “Hands need to be washed every time when returning to the kitchen.”

During the inspection, the inspector also deducted four points for noticing food being improperly stored.

“Observed uncovered chicken inside [walk-in-cooler],” the report stated. “Food needs to be covered while in storage.”

For additional improper practices in food storage, the establishment lost another nine points.

“Observed food in both prep top coolers not being held at 41 [Farenheit] or below,” the report stated. “Have both prep top coolers fixed to maintain a temp of 41F or below..”

Following the A Town Wings, the third lowest score of the week was an 85 given to the Ballantyne Commons of Augusta, located at 3150 Skinner Mill Road, in Augusta.

Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported observing an improper pH balance, and deducted 15 points from the facility’s score.
