Inspector finds molded tomatoes at Augusta Dairy Queen

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants received were rewarded with a failing score from inspections on Sept. 23-27.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 76 earned by a Dairy Queen, located at 3149 Washington Road.

The inspector witnessed employees not wearing proper gear for preparing food, which resulted in a nine point reduction.

“Observed employee crush and place cookie pieces with her bare hands onto cake before placing in cooler for purchase,” the report stated.


Deducting nine more points, the health inspector reported seeing spoiled food in storage.

“Observed molded tomatoes being stored amongst other tomatoes in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated.

Following the Dairy Queen inspection, the second lowest score of the week was an 83 given to Sarku Japan, located at 3450 Wrightsboro Road in Augusta.

The inspector reported observing employees not wearing proper gear for food prepping and bacteria buildup on appliances.

“Observed an employee not wearing a beard restraint while cooking,” the report stated. “Observed black buildup inside the bulk ice machine.”

The third lowest score of the week was a score of 85 given to Bill’s Family Restaurant, located at 2518 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.

From the inspection, the inspector observed a problematic dishwasher.

“Observed dishwasher with no sanitizer getting on the dishes” the report stated. “Have machine fixed where sanitizer is getting to the dishes.”

In addition, the inspector noted seeing food stored at an improper temperature.

“Observed cheese being held at 74 degrees Fahrenheit,” the report stated. “Observed hot turkey held and rice being held below 135 degrees Fahrenheit.”
