The Irish American Heritage Society has received an Anthem Award for Local Community Engagement in the Education, Art & Culture category, honoring the organization’s 2025 “Heritage in Motion” St. Patrick’s Day programming.

The 5th Annual Anthem Awards recognize individuals and organizations driving positive social impact around the world, according to a press release from the Irish American Heritage Society.

Honorees are selected by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, which includes leaders such as Nancy Brown of the American Heart Association, Asha Curran of GivingTuesday, author and actor Ashley Judd, and Ford Foundation President Darren Walker.

Past recipients include Patagonia, Sesame Workshop, The New York Times, Amnesty International, Matt Damon, Dr. Jane Goodall, and Kevin Bacon, according to a press release from the Irish American Heritage Society.

Past President Sean Mooney and Past President Tim Regan accepted the award on behalf of the society’s 2024–2025 officers, executive board, and members during a ceremony in New York City.

Heritage in Motion featured a multi-week series of cultural events held throughout February and March 2025.

The slate included more than 10 public and society events, educational programs, performances, collaborations, and volunteer-led initiatives highlighting Irish culture across the Central Savannah River Area.

According to the society, hundreds of volunteers and more than 15 community partners contributed to the effort.

The programming strengthened ties with faith communities, local officials, the Irish Consulate, and regional institutions with the goal of fostering a more connected and engaged community.

“This award reflects what a community can do when people step up together,” Mooney said. “Every event, every partnership, every volunteer made this possible, and we’re grateful to see that work recognized on their behalf.”
