Jags Win First Game in Series Against Flagler

Date: February 27, 2021

Augusta University kicked off the first game of its three-game series Friday night in exciting fashion defeating Flagler College on a walk-off single in the 11th inning, winning 8-7.

The game started right for Flager in the second inning, when Jaiden Warde hit a grand slam giving the Saints a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. That was the last bit of offense the Saints would put up for a while however, as the Jaguars then scored 7 unanswered runs over the next four innings.

After the Jaguars scored one run in the bottom of the second inning, Jaguars shortstop Trent Maddox hit a monster home run to right field that not only brought the game within one run but gave the team the momentum it needed to pull through and take the lead. The Jaguars would go on to score four more runs over the course of the game that would give them a healthy lead of 7-4.

The Saints would struggle until the 9th inning where they had bases loaded and were able to tie the game with a wild pitch that scored one run, and a two RBI single off the bat of Myles Colangelo that tied the game at 7-7 with two outs.

In the bottom of the 11th inning is when Maddox yet again had a chance to shine for the Jags, hitting a walk off single with bases loaded to give the Jaguars an 8-7 victory. Maddox would finish the game hitting 2 for 5 , 3 RBI’s, 1 HR, 1 BB, and the game winning at bat.

The next two games of the series will be played in a double header at SRP Park Saturday, Feb 27th. Game 1 will start at 11a.m., and game 2 will begin thirty minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
