The James Brown statue, currently located in front of the Augusta Common, will be temporarily moved to accommodate downtown construction, starting Thursday, July 17.
The temporary relocation will be part of the redevelopment of a public space along Broad Street between Eighth and Ninth Streets, according to a press release from Augusta-Richmond County.
With approval from the James Brown Family, Augusta-Richmond County is partnering with the Augusta Museum of History to manage the relocation.
During the construction period, the statue will be securely stored in a climate-controlled environment at the museum, according to a press release from Augusta-Richmond County.
Once construction is completed, the statue will return to Broad Street and become the centerpiece of the newly developed James Brown Linear Park.
The park will feature interactive displays, a timeline of the musician’s achievements, and other elements celebrating his legacy.
This initiative is part of Augusta’s broader effort to improve public spaces and invest in cultural infrastructure, according to a press release from Augusta-Richmond County.
