The T.W. Josey varsity girls’ basketball team dominated Glenn Hills 75-7 Jan. 25 at the James Henry Roundtree Athletic Complex.
Coach Jawan Bailey and his Eagles were glad to get the bounce back win after losing to Laney last week 54-51. Even though the Eagles got the dominate win, Bailey says he wants to continue to challenge his team.
“Keep challenging them,” he said. “Challenge them in practice, we don’t have the affordability to get too high. We were coming off a loss against Laney last week, so were understanding if we are not on top off our game, then we can 100% drop one.”
The Eagles held the Spartans scoreless until four minutes to go in the first quarter. Amyreana Pierce drove in for the layup for Glenn Hills, but Josey was ahead 11-2.
Josey went on another 20-0 run toward the end of the second quarter and led 45-6 at the half. Senior forward Ameerah Evans led Josey in scoring at the half with 12 points.

The defense for the Eagles continued to be strong, giving up zero points in the third quarter.
Senior guard Ky’Shonna Brown, who is committed to play at the Division I School Jacksonville University, finished with 11 points and a few assists as well in the win. The Eagles played with a “team first” mentality, as every active player had a basket in the win.
“We had goals each quarter on the defensive end to keep them engaged on what were doing defensively, so I still feel like we got better tonight,” said Bailey. “Regardless of what the score looked like; I still think we challenged ourselves to improve.”
Last season, the Josey girls’ team won the Georgia 2A high school state title. Bailey says he likes the chances this year in the region.
“I think in the region we have a great shot,” he said. “It all comes down to how we play and what we do as far as our fundamentals and our value and core stuff. I think were as good as any team, but if we don’t play to our capabilities, we can lose to any of these teams.”
Josey’s next game will be on the road against Jefferson County at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28. Glenn Hills next game will be at home against Butler at 6 p.m. Friday.
