Columbia County Board of Education member Judy Teasley has been appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to the Georgia Commission on Civics Education.
The Georgia Commission on Civics Education was created to ”promote and enhance the education of students on the importance of civic involvement in a constitutional republic, the study of state and local government among the state’s citizenry, the importance of civic engagement and public service, and communication and collaboration among organizations in the state that conduct civics education,” according to a news release from the Columbia County School District.
Kemp made four appointments to the commission with 13 appointments coming from various organizations including the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate, a justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, the Attorney General, the State School Superintendent, representatives from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and the Georgia Municipal Association, the news release continued.
Teasley, is a retired educator and was recently re-elected as the representative for district three school board seat.
