Being chosen as a representative of Augusta University at The University System of Georgia’s (USG) Academic Recognition Day Ceremony has recently come as a pleasant surprise to AU senior Julianna McGahee.

Each year, a student from each USG college is chosen to participate in this ceremony which takes place at the capitol building in Atlanta.

The date of the ceremony has yet to be announced.

McGahee said that she is still in a state of elation after receiving the email just two weeks ago.

“I love this university, it’s just taught me so much about myself and just given me so much and so I’m just super excited to be able to represent a school that I love so much,” she said. “It’s definitely gonna be an experience that I’m never going to forget and that I’m going to hold near and dear to my heart.”

McGahee’s academic background

McGahee is a communication major with a minor in nonprofit management, and is pursuing her Master of Public Administration at Augusta University. She has a certificate in public relations and museum studies and is in the college’s honors program. McGahee also works for the communication department, helping run AU social media and assisting the student outreach department.

McGahee said her best advice for other students is to give everything 100%.

“Always give everything your best…There’s going to be things we’re all imperfect at, there’s gonna be plenty of mistakes that we make. So I think, just, teach yourself to continue to get back on your feet, and find enjoyment in it,” she said.
