Governor Brian Kemp has ended speculation and announced he will not run next year as a Republican challenger to Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff.
In a post on social media site X, Kemp wrote, “Being on the ballot next year is not the right decision for me and my family.”
“I spoke with President Trump and Senate leadership earlier today and expressed my commitment to work alongside them to ensure we have a strong Republican nominee who can win next November, and ultimately be a conservative voice in the U.S. Senate who will put hardworking Georgians first,” Kemp wrote.

Ossoff first won office in 2020 on the heels of the Biden win for the presidency, but is now considered vulnerable now that Donald Trump is back in the White House.
Meanwhile, Kemp is term-limited and cannot run for a third term as Governor.
Georgia is expected to be a major battleground for Republicans as they look to enlarge their slim three-seat Senate majority.
