Dear Editor,

It smacks of treachery when Richmond County’s elected officials appear to be conducting the public’s business behind closed doors.

For several months, the Augusta Press has been exposing what appears to be back room deals involving the Augusta Land Bank Authority and the Augusta Commission and Richmond County Board of Education.

It’s disconcerting on several levels. But two are particularly troublesome to me: all the secrecy involved and the implied opportunity for personal financial gain.

When you have time, go back through the articles, and see if you agree.

The question is what are we, as citizens and taxpayers, going to do about it?

If ever there was a time to convene a Grand Jury to investigatethis very serious matter and get to the bottom of what’s going on – this is the time.

Sonny Pittman
