Letter to the Editor

Date: April 01, 2022

Dear Editor,

The trees at the Augusta Commons that the Garden City of Augusta want to remove provide something we positively can not survive without…oxygen.

Yep. Thanks to the magic of photosynthesis trees “capture “ carbon dioxide and lucky for us release the breath of life…OXYGEN.  24/7.

Carbon dioxide is  the greenhouse gas that is the primary driver of climate change.

Obviously we need more trees to protect and improve our air quality. Not less.

In fact the American Lung Association’s annual “State of the Air” report for 2021 ranked Augusta as the 101st most polluted city for OZONE pollution in the United States. Which by the way was worst than 2020!
Solution. Alter the sidewalks, don’t touch the beautiful shade and oxygen producing trees, and replace the trees around the James Brown stature. For  an appropriate honor name each tree for one of his Gold Records. So as we sit on a comfortable and shaded bench, breathing clean air- we can all sing I FEEL GOOD!

Thank you and keep breathing,

Cobbs Nixon
