Letter to the editor: Commissioners and conspiracies

Letters to the editor
Date: August 13, 2023

I feel sorry for the six Augusta commissioners who I suspect have achromatopsia. That may explain why they can’t see green and don’t understand their need as public servants to exercise fiscal restraint and responsibility.

Would you hire someone to run the Parks and Recreation Department knowing he has no experience or knowledge in that field? And when he fell flat on his face, the department started going to hell and taxpayers were questioning your sanity, spend $7 million of our dollars to bring in contractors to do his job?

I generally don’t delve into conspiracy theories, but in this case, I have one to offer. As I understand it, the gentleman in question was formerly a deputy city administrator in charge of accounting for and managing SPLOST funds.

There’s a lot going on down at the Marble Palace I don’t understand, but I can smell the stink way out here in west Augusta.

It’s not that the six, I refer to as the Gang of Six, are dumb as dirt as one former commissioner likes to imply in his Augusta Press articles; it’s just that they do dumb things – again and again and again.

The irony of this sad situation is that the voters, who put the six big tax-and-spenders in their commission seats, and whose tax money gets constantly squandered along with our own, must really be dumb as dirt.
