Letter to the editor: Decision on next city administrator already made

Letters to the editor
Date: September 13, 2023

Dear Editor,

Takiyah Douse will be named Augusta’s next city manager.

The Gang of Six made that decision months ago.

So why go through the charade – and our expense – of hiring a North Carolina recruiting firm to come up with a list of four or five qualified candidates?

It’s part of the games they play to take our eyes off their real intent.

We all know they hold the six votes that determine every commission action.

Why not just come clean, hold a press conference, and announce their decision.

For the last 28 years a major portion of the citizens and taxpayers who reside in Richmond County – primarily those of us in west Augusta have lived under what my ancestors fought against — “taxation without representation.”

I am not naïve enough to think that my current Augusta commissioner represents me.

The Gang of Six makes nice with Sean and the other commissioners when they want to and ignores them when they make up their minds to do something.

It’s a deplorable situation.

Sonny Pittman

Augusta, Ga.

Sonny Pittman serves on the Richmond County Planning Commission.
