In a surprising turn of events following the recent primary election, Lewis Blanchard has announced the termination of his campaign for Sheriff of Burke County.

This decision comes amidst what Blanchard describes as a careful period of reflection and assessment of the election results, which strongly favored the incumbent Sheriff Alfonzo Williams. (Sheriff Williams’ reaction at bottom.)

“After careful consideration and reflection since the recent primary election, I am announcing my decision to end my campaign for Sheriff of Burke County,” stated Blanchard in his press release.

Blanchard acknowledged the widespread support demonstrated for Sheriff Alfonzo Williams through the primary results, indicating a significant backing for the current administration.

“The primary election outcome shows strong support for the current Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Alfonzo Williams,” Blanchard remarked.

Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Blanchard emphasized the value of their encouragement and financial contributions throughout his campaign.

“Your support has been invaluable, and I assure you any funds donated to the primary campaign were used responsibly,” he assured.

Additionally, Blanchard pledged to refund donations made towards the general election within the coming week.

Reflecting on his campaign experience, Blanchard noted it as a profound opportunity to connect with the community and gain insight into their needs.

“Running for Sheriff has been a remarkable experience. It has allowed me to connect with so many incredible individuals and to better understand the needs and hopes of our community,” Blanchard commented.

Despite the conclusion of his campaign, Blanchard affirmed his dedication to public service and pledged ongoing support for initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety and well-being. “While my campaign may be coming to an end, my commitment to service remains unwavering,” he asserted. Looking ahead, Blanchard expressed optimism about future opportunities to contribute positively.

In closing, Blanchard extended his heartfelt gratitude to his supporters and the community at large.

“Thank you once again for your understanding and unwavering support,” he concluded.

Blanchard’s decision marks a notable development in the upcoming sheriff’s race, leaving Sheriff Alfonzo Williams as the uncontested candidate for the position in Burke County.

Sheriff Williams released this statement following the announcement:

“As the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, we would like to address Lewis Blanchard’s recent announcement to withdraw his campaign for Burke County Sheriff. We want to assure the people of Burke County that I will continue to serve and keep our community safe, just as we have done for the past 7 1/2 years. We will continue to stand firm on our record of service, safety and solutions.

Our core values remain focused on safety, service, and solutions, as well as caring for our families, future, and finances. We are committed to engaging in the latest and best law enforcement practices to minimize liability and ensure the well-being of our community.

One of our top priorities is the training and education of our deputies and staff. By investing in their growth, we aim to maintain the trust and confidence of the residents of Burke County. We want them to know that they can trust us and they can trust our product.

We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of law enforcement. We will continue to work tirelessly to provide a safe and secure environment for all.

We want to thank all of our Burke County citizens who voted in the primary election, and all who supported our campaign in various ways. We are grateful for your loyal support and trust.
