Life sentence for Burke man accused of sodomizing autistic male

Robert Lee Mapp (Burke County mugshot)

Date: January 18, 2025

A Burke County jury found Robert Lee Mapp Jr. guilty Thursday of aggravated sodomy for sexual assault on an autistic male, District Attorney Jared Williams announced.

Trial testimony showed Mapp, 54, had a history of getting young men intoxicated to the point of blackout, then sodomizing them, Williams said.

“We are safer today for having one less sexual predator in our community,” Williams said. “We are grateful for the jury’s service in finding justice for this victim.”

Immediately after the trial, led by ADA Rex Myers, Superior Court Judge Ashley Wright sentenced Mapp to life in prison.

“We are grateful for the efforts of Chief Investigator Samuel Long of the DA’s Office and Inv. John Hensley of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation into the extensive digital forensic evidence in the case, which allowed prosecutors to establish Mapp’s attempts to cover up his crime,” he said.
