Live Music Events Plentiful

Live music options are in abundance in the area from outdoor concert series to bands at local restaurants and watering holes.

The Music in the Park series kicks off with the band Swing Shift at 7 p.m. June 10 at North Augusta’s Maude Edenfield Park.

“We didn’t have one last year, and with COVID-19, we’re having an abbreviated one this year,” said Ken Smith, executive director of the North Augusta Cultural Arts Council, one of the event sponsors.

The free concert series will include four bands in June and July.

Also on June 10 is the weekly Amp the Alley from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Alley in downtown Aiken.

Jordan Foster, a native of Somerset, Ky., is the scheduled performer for Thursday, according to the Amp the Alley Facebook page.

“Jordan Foster embraces a unique but true sound of country music, holding tight to his Southern roots,” the post said.

Suite 10 Restaurant and Bar has a full schedule of live musicians. Greg Fortune will play at 6 p.m. Thursday; Maisie Shaw will sing at 7 p.m., Friday and during Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to  4 p.m. and Jeff and Dawn Barnes will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Patterson and Nale will play at the World Of Beer beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, according to the World of Beer’s Facebook page. Patterson and Nale is an acoustic duo.

Trey McLaughlin and the Sound of Zamar will perform at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Cantina Locale for an afternoon of gospel and family-friendly music and food, according to Trey McLaughlin Music’s Facebook page.

The Sounds of Zamar have performed with singers including “William McDowell, Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, Brian Courtney Wilson, and James Fortune. Trey McLaughlin and the Sounds of Zamar is fresh off a competition win for their rendition of ‘Chasing After You,’ which afforded them a feature on GRAMMY® award-nominated artist Vashawn Mitchell’s ‘Triumphant’ (Deluxe Edition) DVD,” according to The Sounds of Zamar website.

Cantina Locale is located in Daniel Village on Wrightsboro Road.

Also on Sunday, Augusta University and Wycliffe Gordon present Jazz Vespers: Ed Fuqua Group will be at 3 p.m. on the lawn of St. Luke Anglican Church, according to a Facebook post.

The Ed Fuqua Group features Tim Leahey on trumpet and flugelhorn, Amos Hoffman on guitar, Edwin Hamilton on drums and Ed Fuqua on double bass. 

The event is free, but guests need a ticket.  Tickets are available at gardencityjazz.eventbrite.com.

More live music continues Monday with the Hopelands Concert Series.

Three concerts remain in the series with 4 Cats in the Doghouse playing at 7 p.m. June 14. The quartet plays jazz, pop and dance music, according to the city of Aiken’s website with the concert listings.

The 47th annual series began in April. All concerts are free. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the H. Odell Weeks Center.
