A local sports vehicle retailer is looking to make sure to make its mark at its new location off Jimmie Dyess Parkway.

Redline Powersports Augusta, alongside AAA Sign Co. has petitioned Columbia County for a variance allowing for signage of 275 square feet at its store at 4200 Belair Frontage Road, rather than the 125 square feet permitted by county ordinance.

The all-terrain vehicle (ATV) dealership moved from its 3120 Washington Rd. location, opening at its current address just last month, the former site of Timms Harley-Davidson of Augusta, which moved to Mason McKnight Jr. Parkway in April.

A letter of intent sent to Columbia County Planning by AAA Sign contends that when Timms Harley-Davidson was at the location, it was allowed more than 300 feet of signage. Redline Powersports plans to install a sign including its own logo, along with the logos of six other sports vehicle brands, including Indian Motorcycle, Sea-Doo and Polaris, to comply with contractual obligations to manufacturers.

Redline Powersports Augusta was once Augusta Powersports, before it was purchased by the Myrtle Beach-based Redline Powersports Group in 2020. The company bought the Belair Frontage Road property earlier this year.

The Development Authority of Columbia County is seeking a sign variance for Club Car, at its new facility in Appling, which opened in April. The Authority, along with Columbia, S.C. sign company Colite, has requested a variance allowing to increase the size of four directional signs toward 708 Innovation Parkway, to accommodate heavy tractor trailer traffic.

Both items are scheduled for the Columbia County Planning Commission’s June 20 meeting.
