When it comes to lists of summer reads, several area residents have penned books in multiple genre they hope will be added.

John Stoney Cannon is an Aiken musician and used his expertise to write a book on teen music idols from the 50s to the 90s.

With illustrations by Francie Klopotic, nightlife columnist for The Augusta Press, Hooked Onna Feeling: The Yummy History of Sticky Sweet Sounds! is tentatively scheduled for a June 18 release.

It focuses on teen heartthrobs such as Elvis Presley, Davy Jones, Donny Osmond and Shaun Cassidy, among others.

Cannon and Klopotic have a podcast, reminiscent of Casey Kasem’s American Top 40, to go along with it.

From music to magic, P.A. Crenshaw’s debut novel After Thought is slated for a May 30 release. The power of positive thinking? Crenshaw steps it up a notch and shows what might happen if thoughts instantly manifested. Find out that and more in this “magical realism/urban fantasy” piece.

Check for it on Amazon.

Crenshaw believes in magic, but John Doirot delves into the world of horror in his fifth novel, Litter.

Nature and humanity can be cruel.

“The cruel world of man arises from misunderstanding and emotion and the cruel world of nature arises out of necessity,” according to Doirot’s synopsis.

Litter was released May 3 and is available at Doirot’s website, minddriftbooks.com.

And if Augusta history is on your summer reading list, check out John Barney’s Looking for Princess Augusta: A Personal Journey.

The retired teacher became interested in Princess Augusta after moving to the area in the early 1980s.

The princess, for whom the city of Augusta is named, was the mother of King George III, who was king of England during the American Revolutionary War.

Not much is written about his mother.

Barney went to great lengths to research for his book — the only book he ever intends to write. He even traveled in Europe the exact route of one of the princess’ journeys and was allowed to take photos inside Westminster Abbey of her grave to include it in his book.

It can be purchased at the Book Tavern, Sacred Heart Cultural Center, Enterprise Mill, Surrey Center Pharmacy, Art on Broad and the Morris Museum of Art.
