Several local businesses and the non-profit Sheppard Community Blood Center are stepping up in the wake of the loss of Columbia County Deputy Brandon Sikes and the life threatening injuries that Deputy Gavin White suffered on April 26.
The men were shot in the line of duty.
Shepeard Blood Center is asking the public to come in and give blood as White has needed blood products for his surgeries and likely will need more. The blood center is located at 1533 Wrightsboro Road and will be open for extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The owners of Pelican’s Snoballs in Grovetown say they are friends with the White family and will donate 20% of their sales to the family this week through Friday. The business is located at 101 E Robinson Ave., in Grovetown.

Taqueria El Rey announced on social media they plan to host a Spirit Day in support of the families on Thursday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“A portion of all proceeds will go directly to the families of these two local heroes,” according to their Facebook page.
Laziza Mediterranean Grill will be donating 10% from every purchase made Wednesday, April 30, to the families of both deputies.
“We would love to see our customers come together to help support them – please consider buying your lunch, dinner or a gift card at either location throughout the day,” said the restaurant in a Facebook post.
Friends of the families have also set up a “Meal Train” account for each family, which will help provide for them during this difficult time.
