Wanted

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for Tytron Martiese Smith, 31, in reference to a child molestation and kidnapping incident that occurred Jan. 4 on the 400 block of Broad Street.

In Custody

Robert Gene Payne II was arrested today in Jacksonville, Fl. and is being held in Duval County Jail pending his extradition to Aiken County.  He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.  The arrest was made possible by Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, SLED and investigators with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Sentenced

William Shannon Scott, 49, of Midville, Ga., was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison for sponsoring and exhibiting an animal in an animal fighting venture.

Wendell Allan Strickland, 67, of Swainsboro, Ga., and Lanier Augustus Hightower, 65, of Lincolnton, Ga., currently are serving federal prison terms after admitting to similar charges to Scott.

Neighborhood Watch

On Jan. 7, around 12:35 p.m., the pictured individual was seen approaching parked vehicles and testing door handles for unlocked doors near the intersection of Ellis Street and Seventh Street.

The subject proceeded down Ellis Street, heading towards Eighth Street, going car to car.

Citizens are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and keep vehicle doors locked at all times.
