Grace Place Mission Center, the nonprofit center run by Grace Baptist Church of Evans, is looking to move to a new permanent location.

The church is currently requesting to rezone its property at 418 Old Evans Road from Single-family Residential (R-3) to Special District Zoning (S-1). Grace Baptist has owned the parcel, just more than half an acre, since fall of last year, according to property records.

A narrative document by EMC Engineering Services accompanying the rezoning application states that Grace Baptist has already made improvements to the site, such as an asphalt parking area with six spaces, a concrete sidewalk. The narrative also notes additions to the ranch-style building on the property for receiving donations, bringing the house’s up to 1,985 square feet.

Grace Baptist launched the mission center at its current storefront location on Riverwatch Parkway in 2023. Open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the faith-based nonprofit facility is operated by volunteers from the church, and provides food and clothing for those in need. The narrative emphasizes that the charity does not offer any housing services, and would not be offering any housing at the new location.

The Columbia County Planning Commission to consider the rezoning during its June 15 meeting.
