Students at Lakeside High School and Cross Creek High School spent time in jail last week for bringing knives to school.

Lakeside student Rilynn Terrie Rawlins, 17, was allegedly found at the Evans school Friday morning with a folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade along with OC spray. Officers also found her with a glass smoking pipe and a marijuana grinder on the school property, according to arrest warrants.

She was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and possession of drug-related objects and taken to the Columbia County Detention Center. She was released within a few hours after making $3,700 bond.

According to a parent letter from Principal Juliet King, three students were found in a vehicle on campus with inappropriate items, including alcohol and a pocketknife. Rawlins was the only one whose name appeared in jail bookings on Monday.

“The car was stopped in the school parking lot due to the absence of a visible parking pass, and a suspicious smell was reportedly coming from inside the vehicle,” King said. “All three students are currently under investigation and will be held accountable according to the code of conduct and any violation(s) of the law.”

In Augusta, Cross Creek High officials say a metal detector alerted them Thursday to a potential weapon and they uncovered a knife.

According to jail bookings, Shantrisse Williams, 17, was charged Thursday with weapons in school buildings, grounds or functions. She spent two days in jail before being bonded out on Saturday, according to jail bookings.

Cross Creek Principal Justin Durham told parents the school day continued without disruption, and the offense was handled by administrators and police according to the student code of conduct.
