Scott Seidl, executive director of The Augusta Players, has died. Social media posts abounded, including from the Augusta Arts Council and downtown black box theater Le Chat Noir, paying respects to the beloved theater director even before The Augusta Players announced his passing, Monday.

A native of Kenosha, Wis., Seidl’s tenure in the performing arts had already spanned decades by the time he joined the Players in 2017, from teaching high school theater and choreography to tour management for rock band Aerosmith.

In the early 2000’s Seidl was a writer and associate producer with Nickelodeon, even hosting tours of its classic game show “Double Dare,” alongside Dolly Parton’s Stampede.

In May, Seidl celebrated alongside his fellow Players the Augusta Players’ 80th theatrical season with the opening of the Augusta Players headquarters, refurbished from an old warehouse downtown on Ellis Street.

“Giants have come before me in this organization—pillars of advocacy, trusted guardians and strongholds of community. I have no doubt that giants will follow,” wrote M. Amy Patton, chair of Augusta Players’ board of directors, in a post honoring Seidl and announcing his passing. “Scott was one of those giants. He grew this organization. He changed lives. He championed the arts in our city with a passion that will continue to inspire us for generations.”
