Starting Monday, July 28, the inside lanes of Broad Street between Eighth Street and Ninth Street will be closed to vehicles as construction begins on the James Brown Linear Park.

The long-term closure will impact the area surrounding the Augusta Common, with several significant changes to traffic flow, according to a press release from Augusta-Richmond County.

The closure will involve the demolition of the center of the roadway and adjacent parking well, and all parking along the outside lanes of Broad Street will be blocked to make way for realigned travel lanes.

Despite these disruptions, at least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open during this phase of construction.

Motorists are advised to expect potential delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible, according to a press release from Augusta-Richmond County. Drivers are urged to remain cautious and adhere to posted signage throughout the construction zone.

Traffic patterns and impacts may change as construction progresses, so updates will be provided via the City of Augusta’s official communication channels.
