The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Sept. 22–26.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 82 earned by Sarku Japanese, located at 3450 Wrightsboro Road, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noticed a lack of required paperwork, which resulted in a total of eight points deducted.
“Observed no employee health reporting agreements for the facility,” the report stated. “Observed no response procedures for vomiting and diarrheal events.”
The inspector also reported finding food improperly stored, resulting in nine points docked from the health score.
“Observed chicken-45F and shrimp-42F cold-held above 41F,” the report stated. “Observed cabbage hot-held below 135F.”
Another three points were deducted from the health score for the inspector witnessing employees sporting accessories during food prep and not wearing proper protective gear.
“Observed an employee wearing bracelets while cooking/ food prep,” the report stated. “Observed multiple employees not wearing beard restraints during active food prep.”
After losing another point for having utensils stored in several food containers, the inspector deducted another point for seeing wet dishes nesting.
“Allow dishes to properly air dry before stacking,” the report stated.
The second lowest score of the week was an 83 given to a Knuckle Sandwiches, located at 1149 Broad St., in Augusta.
The inspector deducted nine points for noticing an employee touching ready to eat food without a utensil.
“Observed employee touching bread (ready to eat food) with bare hands,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for finding a lack of required documentation about employee health agreements.
“Observed missing Employee Health Agreements for 2 cooks,” the report stated. “Have all employees read and sign health agreements.”
The inspector deducted another four points for finding the handwashing sink blocked.
“Observed handwashing sink blocked by dishes on top of sink,” the report stated. “Have handwashing sink accessible at all times.”
The inspector also deducted another three points for seeing a liquid improperly stored.
“Observed oil stored on floor in kitchen,” the report stated. “Do not store food on floor. Store food at least 6″ off the floor.”
Following the Knuckle Sandwich inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 84 given to the Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health, located at 1629 Gordon Highway, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted nine points for noticing an employee not following proper handwashing protocol.
“Observed an employee wipe his nose with hand and used hand sanitizer instead of washing hands,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four points for finding an employee beverage near kitchen food prep surfaces.
“Observed employee drink on prep table next to food,” the report stated. “Place personal items in a designated area.”
Another three points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the inspector finding food items past their use-by and discard dates.
“Observed multiple food (deli ham, orange juice, cucumbers, and melons) held past use-by date,” the report stated. “Discard. Monitor use-by dates and discard when appropriate.”
