The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Nov. 3–7.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 81 earned by MacArthur Park Apartments’ Pool, located at 101 Little Rock Road, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noticed an improper amount of chlorine in the pool and the chlorine having incorrect pH balance levels, and deducted 15 points from the health score.
“Observed chlorine not reading on test,” the report stated. “Observed pH of 8.0. Adjust to a pH of 7.2-7.8.”
The inspector deducted an additional four points for noticing cyanuric acid also being at improper levels.
“Observed cyanuric acid off the scale. Estimate between 200 – 300 ppm,” the report stated. “Adjust cyanuric acid between 30 – 50 ppm but no higher than 90 ppm.”
The second lowest score of the week was an 86 given to a Wendy’s, located at 3013 Peach Orchard Road, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted four points for required paperwork on site not being available on site.
“Observed [person in charge] not able to produce employee health agreements,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for noticing bacteria on kitchen equipment.
“Observed build up in ice maker,” the report stated. “Clean ice maker.”
The inspector deducted another three points for the witnessing used food safety gear left on a food rack.
“Observed used disposable gloves left on food rack inside [walk in cooler],” the report stated. “Disposable gloves should be thrown away after being used.”
Another point was deducted from the health score for the inspector observing wet nesting of clean dishes.
“Allow dishes to air dry before stacking,” the report stated.
Following the Wendy’s inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 89 given to an America’s Best Value Inn, located at 3320 Deans Bridge Road, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted five points for finding a large milk jug not meeting regulations.
“Observed large milk jug for use with cereal,” the report stated. “Use only single use milk or obtain Food Service from health department.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted two more points for finding broken fans in bathrooms.
“Observe fans not working in bathrooms in rooms 206 and 219,” the report stated. “Repair fans so they move air out of the bathroom.”
An additional four points were deducted for the inspector finding stained linens and mattresses in rooms.
“Observed stained mattresses and linens in rooms 206 & 216. Observed burn holes in linen in rooms 106 and 101,” the report stated. “Clean or replace all stained mattresses and sheets. Replace all damaged sheets and covers.”
