Man dies in 18-wheeler accident in south Augusta

A Keysville, Ga. man was killed Monday when his 18-wheeler struck and abandoned vehicle on Peach Orchard Road.

Kenneth A. Key, 55, was traveling south near the 4600 block of Peach Orchard Road about a mile south of Mims Road, around 9:12 p.m. Monday when the 18-wheeler he was driving struck an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder of the road. The 18-wheeler overturned and Key was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an email from Sgt. William McCarty with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

“The accident caused a fuel spill along the southbound lanes and shoulder of the roadway. Deputies and road crews remain at the scene while the roadway is being cleared. Southbound traffic is being reduced to one lane on the 4600 block of Peach Orchard Road,” the email said. :Northbound traffic is flowing normally. This lane closure is expected to be in effect for the next 24 hours. We are asking motorists to use caution while traveling in the area.”
