Man found shot to death in his Hephzibah home, 41st homicide of the year

Richmond County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Hephzibah-McBean Road in Hephzibah.

The victim, an adult male, was found inside a residence at 1457 Hephzibah-McBean Road with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, the incident was confirmed as a homicide. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification to his family, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 3:11 p.m. Sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry confirmed that deputies located the victim, who had already succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and no additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting has been made public.

This marks the 41st homicide in Richmond County this year, surpassing the total number of homicides in 2023 by three.
