A 19-year-old Augusta man Friday, June 17 pleaded guilty to four criminal cases — two of which involved acts committed while incarcerated in the county jail.

Renido Davis had no criminal history before Nov. 5, 2019, when, in a fit of anger over the possible sexual assault of a sibling, he shot at a home where the suspected abuse occurred.

Davis was out on bond in that case when he shot another man at a party. The victim, shot four times, has recovered, said Assistant District Attorney Keven Davis, who is no relation to the accused. The victim is now in prison for unrelated criminal conduct, the prosecutor said.

While in jail on those charges, Renido Davis committed two new crimes — aggravated battery for an attack on a fellow jail inmate on Sept. 27, 2020, and possession of contraband Feb. 1 when a razor blade was found in a cell where he and two others were held, the prosecutor said.

Defense attorney Lucy Bell told the judge that Renido Davis is taking responsibility for his acts and intends to take advantage of any possible education or job training while in prison so that he can move on with his life once released.

Chief Judge Daniel J. Craig accepted the negotiated sentenced of 10 years in prison followed by five years on probation.
