One of five men who attacked a fellow jail inmate with a shank and fists pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 24.
Devontae J. Sims, 22, was in jail awaiting trial on a burglary charge when the attack occurred May 11, 2021. Monday in Richmond County Superior Court Sims pleaded guilty in aggravated assault.
Judge John Flythe sentenced Sims, who is currently serving a five-year prison term for the burglary, to two years in prison followed by 13 years on probation. The sentence will run concurrently to his burglary sentence.
Two others involved in the attack have also pleaded guilty in the jail attack – Lavelton Philpot who was sentenced May 31 to five years in prison, and Savion D. Pollard who was sentenced to two years in prison followed by 18 years on probation. Charges are still pending against Sherrod Boyd and Arquette Jones.
