Columbia County authorities say a man was already lying in the road Thursday night when he was struck by an Evans teen and killed.

Elijah Robinson, 24, of Grovetown, was struck by a car driven by 18-year-old Brinley Walden on Washington Road at Halali Farm Road. “According to several witnesses and for reasons unknown at this time, Robinson was lying face down in the westbound lane,” sheriff’s Major Steve Morris said. “Witnesses were able to swerve around Robinson.”

But Walden was not able to miss him and struck the man with her black Hyundai Kona.  Robinson was transported to Doctors Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

No charges are expected on Walden.
