Date: July 30, 2022

A car chase early Saturday ended with one man dead.

At 12:25 a.m. Saturday, Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies became involved in a vehicle pursuit after learning the driver of a car had multiple warrants including aggravated stalking.

Shane Lord, 40, attempted to evade deputies and drove into Burke County where Burke County deputies and Georgia State Patrol officers joined in, according to an email from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

“Deputies were able to immobilize Lord’s vehicle using a spike strip,” the email said.  “Shane Lord exited his vehicle with a gun and shot himself one time.”

Lord was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m., according to an email from Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen.

“No further information will be released at this time due to the active investigation,” the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office email said.

Lord was arrested in Richmond County May 27 and charged with battery.
