A 72-year-old man was shot in the foot by his son-in-law Saturday morning in a quiet Martinez neighborhood, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to 4580 Colonial Road shortly after 9 a.m. and found David Narvaez, 72, suffering from a gunshot wound. Narvaez told authorities he was shot by his son-in-law, Jean Paul Penaloza, 31.

Penaloza was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with aggravated assault and weapon possession.

Residents reported seeing blood across the roadway and deputies blocking off part of the street as the investigation unfolded.

No further details have been released.
